Removing EU Citizenship?

Has anyone done an affidavit or anything similar for the sole purpose of renouncing their EU citizenship? If so how did you do it as according to legislation and EU law we are automatically EU citizens by being British/UK Citizens. If we relinquish the latter it still doesn't alter the former. Is there a way to relinquish the former?
