29 billion reasons to lie about cholesterol

Film Synopsis: 4 minutes

Millions of people around the world are currently taking medications to lower their cholesterol. In England alone, around 7 million people are taking cholesterol-lowering statins in the hope of reducing their risk of a heart attack. But an increasing number of doctors and researchers are questioning the supposed link between cholesterol and heart disease.

At the same time, many people are concerned about the mass prescription of medications. In particular, prescribing medications to people who are, for the most part, perfectly healthy.

In this film we are going to ask if the facts about cholesterol and heart disease have been distorted by pharmaceutical companies keen to increase their profits, and if our health authorities are doing their job to protect us from these commercial interests.

29 billion dollars is a conservative estimate of the current value of the cholesterol-lowering industry.

29 billion pounds is what cardiovascular disease costs the UK economy each year.

If the focus on cholesterol has been a mistake, then the greatest cost is associated with the lost opportunity to tackle heart disease.

Hi dmgc01, good post!
I have long maintained that there is no such thing as any bad cholesterol HDL or LDL (I'll have to dig up some links) as the video maintains. Ironic that the medical/pharma industry focuses on and propagates the myth that what is in actual fact healthy and necessary for our bodies is demonised to their profit advantage. If anyone were to read through the health section on this website (though this knowledge is not restricted to this site) it becomes clear that there is an enormous conspiracy against the public being undertaken by the pharmaceutical industry and has been in place and evolving in its method since the 1850's or thereabouts. The trend , whichever the drug of choice that is used for whatever condition, is that long term they cause harm to our health - slowly and insidiously! and any perception of this is quickly camouflaged by studies orchestrated by the pharmaceutical industry promoting its benefits.
The "lost opportunity to tackle heart disease" presents a question of ethics re: the conduct of doctors (whereas the conduct of pharma is indisputably for profit!). After signing the Hippocratic oath most gp's continue to peddle the wares of the pharma industry. You would think that discrimination would come into effect but clearly cognitive dissonance overrides any such mental facility. I would maintain also, that most who enter the medical profession do so from a financial vantage point rather than motivated from an ethical benevolent standing which in turn consolidates the indoctrination of medical knowledge that is largely sponsored by the pharma industrial complex.
None of the medical professionals that I have had the pleasure to interact with has ever resulted in a favourable outcome. They are the squaddies of the pharma world - mind trained to perform a function with little or no discrimination. Conditions like heart disease are never going to be solved by allopathy who serve only to treat symptoms, rather a greater understanding of nutrition and toxicity by us will likely bring resolution and that realistically excludes the medical/pharma industry but includes the food industry and more pertinently lies with correct individual knowledge of nutrition - again discrimination comes into play, and the same role to a lesser extent that defeats medical professionals repeats itself again as evidenced by the rise in heart disease in the west.

Hi p_devlin.... It is good to come across someone who is aware of such health issues. From your posts I can see you have a considerable knowledge. I will be honest - I can be a shirker at times (hangs head in shame) I find it sooooo tiresome  no excuse and I should be on the ball - considering my health (near death) history! I do study at least and mostly do the right thing!

I dunno - was wondering - because these health issue things ARE all related that perhaps maybe a delegated topic of health rather than sporadic posts! Many are related to each other and many don't complete and then another one starts.... Oh I don't know it's late - just a thought! Would be good to have particular topics in one place regarding health.... mods????

Hi again - Thanks for the comment but really I don't have considerable knowledge  - absolutely right about organising the health section! good idea.
Just also wondering whether the style of forum that tpuc currently uses could be different. The one I like the most is curezone.com which uses a tree style layout which makes navigation, searching etc more easy to accomplish esp with consideration to the number of sections/topics thats there.
