From an alchymical point of view it depends - parafin burns hotter than petrol (more exothermic) but it takes more energy to light parafin than petrol (latent heat of combustion). In general the things which will ignite easily will not give off much heat but the things that are harder to ignite will generally give off more. A gpod example is thermite which requires temperatures approaching 1000 degrees to spark it but reaches temperatures in excess of 5000 degrees which can melt steel. Compare that to butane gas from a calor gas fire which can be ignited from a pink hot cigarette end, it reaches only 500 degrees.

Try as you might, unless you blow oxygen on the cigartte end there is no way that you will ever light a cooker or a gas fir from a cigarette end. ... What this has to do with running a moped engine on chipfat eludes me .. but do experiment and come back with your results. I would bet strong money with you that you are wrong. :D

Yep the butane needs oxygen to ignite but it still light from a cigerette end with a little patience. If you dont beleive me - look at 4th year chemistry textbooks on the alkane series - this explain exactly what Im saying about these chemicals - white spirit for example (turpentine substitute) burns hotter than petrol, but it burns slower, petrol burns quicker but burns slower and colder. Try metling an aluiminium can in both and you will find it far easier using white spirit (which is closer to the alkane content of parafin than petrol - its called kerosene in the states synonimously with the US version of parafin).

OK, this is getting silly! - And given that it was a nonsense thread started by a spambot in the first place, that really is saying something! :o

If you wish to remain in honour and not look like a **~@#** stop it now!

Do it and video it, be the world's first or ... :D ..
but it still light from a cigerette end with a little patience.

... perhaps that would be a waste of time waiting for funk all to happen. I suggest you spend less time misquoting text books and other information and actually test your theories empirically before presenting yourself as with knowledgeable authority. Mis leading people is wrong. The fact that you do it unintentionally makes you a fool rather than a prevaricator, to your credit.

If you track back on some of the threads I have shared with you, it can be seen that any explaination that I give for my statements of principle, I do in layman's terms and as completly as I can. I do this for the sake of correctness and because I hate the use of jargon. I actually derive pleasure from enlightening people, I rarely make an arse of myself because I try to make damn sure I have my facts right before imparting advice. This is the reason why I am seeking some important answers on this forum. You can be sure I will freely share my answers when they are actual proof.

There are those on this forum who are of this ilk and I am pleased to have found them to our mutual benefit.
No malice intended but please check your delusional advice ... this thread is about making a 100MPG moped run on chip fat FFS. I'd bet you don't smoke and haven't realised the capabilities of a cigarette end. Never tried to light a propane torch with a fag ? ... If you post the video, I'll come up to Scotland, shake your hand and pack in smoking !

Goodwill above malice - just check first, then type.

Dave. ;)

I hear an engine can run on veg oil, is this true and is there anything else other than petrol?

Supposedly the diesel engine was created to run on a variety of fuels. "it does.

petrol engine only run on petrol and things like pure alcohol/ethanol,

diesel engines were designed to run on 7 different fuels, diesel at the time was the cheapest, who had veg oil 50 years ago?

diesel engines run very nicely on veg oil...straight from asda, 33p a litre, my 306 runs better on half veg oil/half diesel than pure diesel

what do you think biodiesel is?

diesel engines will run on diesel, veg oil, animal fat emusion, Home heating oil, Kerosene and jet fuel and most thin oils

but you'll never get a petrol engine to run on veg oil no matter how hard you try

I have never heard of a diesel scooter .. I think Royal Enfied India do a couple of deisel motor bikes
http://www.journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_bikes.html
so I think it would probably be a two stroke petrol ... in which case you would mix veggy oil with the petrol, probably in the ratio of 1:10, this is how the 2 stroke engine is lubricated. Never run a 2 stroke on neat petrol. Hope that expains veggy oil for you. ;)

Billygoat, thanks.
The twit** never even said what sort of an engine it had but a SCOOTER ! any kid would know better, either to think of doing it or thinking it would work .. and why the funk anyway ! {Servers me right for responding to idiots}
All that you have said is correct. ;)

lol yah sorry. Petrol burns quicker but colder (than the larger alkanes which do the opposite). Butane is a smaller alkane and burns even quicker and even cooler than petrol. Whats the point anyway, no one needs a 4th year chemistry lesson if they are convinced its just prevarication.
