Hi everyone,
What a breathe of fresh air to be part of this community! Just feel very grateful really.
My background is in Therapy & Education and work for the justice of Parents, Young People and Children, and have a genuine interest in their wellbeing & rights. So if I can offer encourage, help, advice to anyone regarding this, please feel free to ask.
I consider as someone who doesn't give up and am certainly willing to put up a damn good fight. Sometimes I go and go ang go, get tired of the fight, rest for a while and dust myself off, shine up my well worn armour and go again.
One of my edicts I live by: "Use wisdom, choose the battles worth fighting". This is one of them!!
Recently I started to work for my local Council and no sooner I good my first pay packet I was informed that there were 3 outstanding Court Orders given made at the Magistrates court for Council Tax dating back to 2005/6 and 8. At the time, I was with my partner and they said although we are both jointly and severally liable because they only have my details, they advised me that they would put in place an attachment to my earnings to take monies they say is owe on a monthly basis. When I asked the Council why I was not aware of these orders and what procedures had they taken, they informed me that it had been passed to Baliffs. However, the Baliffs had passed it back to them due to our financial situation at the time, of which they cannot tell me what these were. They also advised me that they had hundreds of backlogs to deal with and they (Debt Recovery) had only received my case from the Council in November of last year and actioned it in January this year, which incidentally was all about the same time as my job application was bein processed. Of course I felt and still do feel discouraged, especially as it has left me financialy depleted.
I intend to challenge them initially by way of writing a letter, so if anyone can offer some help with contents, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
