So, driving along the highway (canada) and passed a black SUV with magnetic business signs on the doors (landscape business) and a green N (new driver, same as our L plate) on the back tipped sideways Z (seems the thing to do for youngsters), thought nowt of it.
Driving back the same highway i was gobsmacked that the said SUV had stopped a car and was infact an 'unmarked cop car!'.
Devious fookers, is this happening back in the UK, is it legal?

Illegal. As far as I know, an unmarked cop car and plain clothed cop has no right to just stop you, like a traffic cop might. However, If any cop, marked or otherwise actualy sees you break a code or law (sic) then of course they can stop you and seek info from that point.

If you are asked for your details and you have done nothing wrong, and its a plain clothes cop, then tell em to feck off!!! This is something I have heard a few times. If not true then let me know.

Well, a long time ago,I happened across a car full of 'detectives'...(defectives ?)..... I nearly ran him off the road with my truck ! He was driving like he'd stolen the f***ing car and he tried to cut me up to get into a particular lane for the traffic lights (a very late manouvre) only I didn't move,so he so nearly took himself out ! Arrogant fucker tried to make out it was my fault....... ''I'm a police officer you knowe'',says he,after he'd jumped out of the car. Oh really....then you should know better that to be driving like a complete twat !....... He tried to get arsey with me,so I told him if he didn't get back in his car and piss off,I would run him off the road....... He clearly didn't like this,so when he got back to the station,he reported me to his boss.
So,I had a conversation with said boss and told him what had really gone on. Needless to say,boss cop backed down and said that he would 'have words' with this detective.....Never heard anymore about it.

So,no....plain clothed cops in umarked cars are NOT allowed to pull you for just anything....
