Capitalism is an evil, intrinsically corrupting force, despicably immoral corporate entities
have replaced state sponsored slaughter as the primary matrix of power, human beings are
inherently selfish, materialistic mercenaries, governments are systematically stripping us of
our basic rights and we’re all fucked. Pass the heroin and the remote control.

I don't believe those characteristics are inherent, I believe they are learned. I therefore believe they can be un-learned.

And that's all I have to say about that.

P.S. Street art? - A useful tool of expression and potentially very informative on many levels.

i agree with you...but at the same time disagree(i can do this, heres why)...essentially, i agree all consciousness is pure...but...at some time in our existence we may have associated with lower qualities and learnt some negative characteristics...these negative qualities could be considered inherent in this life...if i acquired them in a previous lifetime (in mycase many lifetimes).

like...the opposite to selfishness is sharing...it could be said that we all have the quaility of sharing within us....but,what kind of sharing?...will different individuals exhibit.
eg...One man may only share his wealth and food from his table with his immediate family and friends and people that he will materially gain from....While another man might share his last money and food with unknown strangers, who have nothing material to offer back.... both men have the nature to share...but the quality of there sharing is vastly different....so to conclude....we have these good and bad qualities within us...but it's how we use them...i think, this is down to where we take our association from.

absolutly...streetart is a reflection of what is going on in the minds of people of society...whether its a racist slogan, anti war slogan or a cave painting from 1000's of years ago...its expression at street level (literally)...how old's that saying "the writings on the wall".

Mad, street art is alive and kicking in London for sure, I think it has to do with growing up in all this concrete and grime. Best SE london graffitii; Love over gold (nicked by dire straights) We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars, Millwall Max Wall Brickwall,
Just saw a little short film on discovery chanel about an 'anti-graffitii' artist in new york, he uses templates and masks and a jet washer or detergents and scrubbing brushes instead of paints. Does it in broad daylight and has yet to be procecuted. All he needs is a dirty surface and some water! sheer genius!

nice one jack....i googled "anti graffiti"...and after pages of firms advertising many products and solutions to stop graff...came up with..."Reverse Graffiti"

When is cleaning the sidewalks a crime? When you’re doing it to create art. Obviously.

A number of street artists around the world have taken to expressing themselves through an innovative practice known as Reverse Graffiti. Taking a cue from the “Wash Me” messages scrawled on the back of delivery trucks, they seek out soot covered surfaces and inscribe them with images, tags, and even advertising slogans using scrub brushes, scrapers and pressure hoses.
The UK’s Paul Curtis, better known as “Moose,” is one of the technique’s pioneers. Operating around Leeds and London, he has been commissioned by a number of brands, such as Smirnoff, who want to convey a sense of “clean” in an innovative way.

On a more overtly environmental bent, Brazilian Alexandre Orion, turned one of Sao Paolo’s transport tunnels into a stunning mural last summer. The mural, comprised of a series of skulls, very succinctly reminds drivers of the impact their emissions are having on the planet.

The practice puts authorities in a definite moral quandary. According to Moose, “Once you do this, you make people confront whether or not they like people cleaning walls or if they really have a problem with personal expression.” The Leeds City Council decided to lead their attack with an hilariously nonsensical position:

“Leeds residents want to live in clean and attractive neighbourhoods, and expect their streets to be free of graffiti and illegal advertising. We also view this kind of rogue advertising as environmental damage and will take strong action against any advertisers carrying out such campaigns without the relevant permission.”

What action was taken against the advertisers is unknown. What is known is that Moose was charged under the very scary sounding Anti-Social Behaviour Act and ordered to clean up his clean act. I’m not exactly sure how he managed to did this. By making it dirty again?

The Brazilian artist’s work came to a happier resolution. The authorities were certainly miffed but could find nothing to charge him with. They had no other recourse but to clean the tunnel — but only the parts Alexandre had already cleaned. The artist merely continued his campaign on the other side of traffic. The utterly flummoxed city officials then decided to take drastic action. Not only did they clean the entire tunnel but also every other tunnel in Sao Paulo.

Naughty naughty! You like the 'Reverse graffiti' guy then? I can just see the Stroud coppers trying to nick you for a Ganesh cleaned outa the muck on the railway arches. 'milud, this gentleman was observed cleaning the said railway property in the shape of a Asian religious deity when I apprehended him.' Could have a lot of fun with dirty white vans?

too right...it brings into question..what it is people don't like about graff?...how can creating a image in grime possibly cause offence?

look what this "criminal" graff artist prompted the authorities to do :D

How about a "Join Lawful Rebellion"...."Google tpuc"...."The Slaves are Rebelling"...."Clean UP Society"....possibilities are endless, maybe we should set some HOMEWORK... art cleaning project for members of our forum
