when me and the mrs visited Banksy's exhibition at Bristol...i couldn't help but place a m8s stickers on some of his artwork...can't really see that he'd have reason to complain

camo vs banksy...don't take this 2 seriously
never under estimate...a well driven van!
Had a giggle with camos sticks....security gaurd was about 5 ft away....protecting the gold frame? or making sure that van didn't run anyone over!

Thanks Madlookin, I downloaded the editions that are available, right up my street anyway :)

Something that i had been contemplating recently is without understanding the message carried in some street art is completely lost on many people, and the street art brings me back to the use of memes. I continued to excersice my grey matter and came to the conclusion that to be able to dilute the effect of the meme and the credibility of the creator, one would simply have to alter the social existance of the meme. What better way to make it a vaulable material item that in turn starts to generate greed and promote materialism. Banksy didn't sell out, he was just finally manipulated and turned lol.

a take it your a Londoner
personally i don't feel banksy sold out....he became popular...and could see that certain types were willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money for something that would have taken minutes to produce...i would take the money too ;) and i don't see that taking the money has changed his rebellious attitude...it still comes out...through his art

take this piece for example 8-)

here's a quote from his book..."Banksy Wall and Piece"
The time of getting fame for your name on its own is over.Artwork that is only about wanting to be famous will never make you famous. Fame is a by-product of doing something else. You don't go to a restaurant and order a meal because you want to have a shit!

from another book streetart book
BULLSHIT DETECTOR
I cock an imaginary pistol every time i hear the words 'contemporary urban art'.

and he gets shit from some graff writers too ...but that could be down to an age old feeling of jealousy
more streetart folks...add it to the thread :D
