place2be place2talk

Postby gary-mark:morton » Mon Feb 06, 2012 2:29 pm

just wondered if anyone knew anything about the "charity" place2be, we were given a letter from our kids primary school informing us that this wonderful charity will be offering a place2be to our kids, which will help them learn about how to be happy with themselves through talking and creative play with their highly trained volunteers, in addition to the place2be there is a place2talk which seems to be a counselling service for 6 year old's which gives them anytime access to this volunteer to discuss any problems about relationships, family, home life etc.
when i looked at the web site place2be the volunteer training etc seems to revolve around cognitive behavior, neurobiology etc,
the whole feel of the project reeks of NLP, common purpose?,1984 style inform on the parents and 'change agents' in general.
Worryingly this was an opt out rather than an opt in scheme, so how many parents out there are letting children in without any information about the techniques used
has anyone else out there come across this group i think it would be interesting to find out what other groups are involved behind the scenes with training and funding etc.

Spot on - Common Purpose through & through

Did a quick search

Mind - Mental Heath - Seems they sneaked in the back door around 2010!

http://www.mind.org.uk/news/3165_launch ... _coalition

Also just came across this!!!

Freemasons Grand Charity give over £1,000,000 in grants - The Place2Be has received £50,000 to fund a programme for primary and secondary school children in Leeds

The fact that you say this is an opt out rather than an opt in scheme is deeply worrying. Do you remember the Summary Care Records aka the NHS Database back in 2010? You had to opt out of that too. Seems anything to do with our wellbeing is being databased - unless we OPT OUT!

yes the opt out thing is worrying as the letter was very vague and made place2be sound a bit like a play group for lunch time, allot of parents will let their children go just so they don't feel left out, in fact my own daughter was a little put out that she might miss something,
the letters sent to parents contained almost no information, no web address, no background etc,
so i would advise all parents out there to double check the background and practices used by any of these groups, charities, initiatives and schemes used on our kids

be warned
