I had the same letter off them last september when I sent my claim of right. I went ahead and put my own plates on the automobile which I had informed them of and 6 weeks later I got stopped by some bloke in an unmarked police car. He called his mates and they authorized some bloke to steal my automobile off me while they watched. At no point did I contract with them and I showed them the paperwork I had sent to the DVLA and Philip Hammond (the transport secretary at the time) I asked them if they knew that they were aiding and abetting to an offence when they were watching the bloke steal my automobile but they weren't listening.
It cost me £150 ransom to get my automobile back. If I had tried to stop them they would have arrested me for assault or obstruction or something else. How can we stop them from taking private property?
There are no strangers on this planet, just friends we haven't met yet.

I like the feigned confusion over what happened, despite you knowing exactly what happened and why.

Your protestations to the police were likely seen as the ramblings of somebody out of touch with reality. Note, "reality" refers to the way things are, not the way you'd prefer them to be.
