Or even a safety device.
The car isn't meant to drive with no-one in it, it just drives for you. A rather large number of people drive because they have to (public transport being shit) rather than because they enjoy driving.
Instead of haveing tired, bored hungover drivers talking to passengers, talking on their mobile phones, smoking, drinking, eating, brushing hair, doing make up at the wheel by paying attention to a nice pair of legs, a bargain in a shop window, what to have for tea etc, they could be doing all that while a computer that pays attention drives them safely to their destination door to door.

So those people that enjoy driving can do it safer, because they don'thave to worry about inattentive idiots.

Of course, the same technology could be used for all of papillion's nefarious purposes as well.

if people enjoy driving why would they allow a computer to do it for them...also theres noting wrong with looking at a nice neat swinging female arse as you driving...also what happens if the computer crashes...the answer is in the question... :P
Laugh my friends even if it kills you, for at least you'll die happy

everything is "IMO" if you want to argue ring your local jobsworth council officer...they love it..

Sure, it may not be as bad as I suggested.

Actually, they probbaly won't have actual euthanasia (injections, carbon-monoxide cubicles or whatever) because that would be too blatant. They are all about gradualism, like a tarantula creeping towards its prey. In the camps you will simply be worked to death. With poor nutrition, crowding and infection, the result will be the same but they have the cover of saying it wasn't intentional. Like the POWs dying like flies while building the Burmese railway, or the concentration camp inmates dying of typhus (in the Boer War!).
