November 10, 2011 - NASA Says “Puzzling Structures” On Asteroid.
“The animation reveals a number of puzzling structures
on the surface we don't yet understand. To date, we've seen less
than one-half of the surface, so we expect more surprises.”
- Lance Benner, Ph.D., NASA Jet Propulsion Lab
“Puzzling structures” might be the circular depression on left and the lighter “lines”
crossing in an X-shape near radar image center of asteroid 2005 YU55 that was obtained
on Nov. 7, 2011, at 11:45 a.m. PST (2:45 p.m. EST/1945 UTC). Then the space
rock was about 860,000 miles (1.38 million km) from Earth. On November 9 at
3:28 PM Pacific, the asteroid moved between the Earth and moon at 30,000 mph,
no closer to Earth than 201,700 miles measured from the center of our planet.
