Then how about just using some chickenwire or netting to keep birds, cats & dogs away?

I do use netting to keep the white cabbage moths way. I don't have problems with cats, sciencman (who I see has done a runner!) does. I did have a problem with badgers and/or foxes ripping my sweetcorn up though. I built a wooden frame around them which works. Its impractical, expensive and aesthetically unpleasing to net everything though.

Animals should show us humans some respect and leave our food alone! :P :D

If you plant courgettes inbetween the sweetcorn the prickly underside of the leaves will stop most animals from getting at them.
