I saw this today,

In a surprising, and for many Benefits and Work members deeply dismaying, decision the DWP have announced this afternoon that Atos have won the biggest share of the contracts for carrying out personal independence payment (PIP) medicals. A smaller share has gone to Capita.

PIP is due to begin replacing disability living allowance (DLA) for working age claimants from April next year, with all current working age DLA claimants having to be reassessed for the new benefit. The contracts for PIP medicals are worth up to a billion pounds in total and have attracted the attention of many multinational companies.

Atos have won Lot 1 and Lot 3 in the bidding for the contracts. Lot 1 covers Scotland, NE England, NW England & Isle of Man while Lot 3 covers London and South England. Capita have won Lot 2, which covers Wales and Central England.

Lot 4 which covers Northern Ireland has not yet been awarded and Lot 5 is also up for grabs, but the DWP have said they do not intend to use Lot 5 unless things go wrong with regional suppliers.
Atos are deeply unpopular with many claimants and disability organisations due to their methods of assessing claimants for employment and support allowance. On Monday of this week, the company was the subject of a Panorama documentary and a Dispatches documentary looking at alleged failings in the way they carry out the work capability assessment.

Capita, which runs the Criminal Records Bureau on behalf of the Home Office and is invariably referred to as ‘Crapita’ by Private Eye, has no history of carrying out medical assessments for state benefits. The company has been involved in a number of less than successful public service contracts in the past, however, including Individual Learning Accounts which were subject to fraudulent claims on an unprecedented scale and which were shut down after just one year.

Amongst the unsuccessful bidders for the contracts so far awarded are G4S who are still reeling from the Olympics security fiasco, Serco, Avanta, Ingeus Deloitte, APM UK, Reed In Partnership and Vertex.

Hi everyone, I'm new here but have a question.

I am currently on dla, suffering from a mental disorder. I recently received a letter from DWP telling me I would soon be sent a form and a subsequent medical appointment to see if i am fit for work.

At the moment i don't believe i am capable of holding down a job. If my benefit is stopped i won't be able to survive. How can i deal with this situation? Can anyone offer any advice?
Thank you

I recently had to send off forms to Atos regarding a claim.I made sure they where sent in time, but they received them one day after the due date.
After a few long heated telephone calls with the post office and Atos they accepted that it wasn`t down to me.
So they sent me more forms... which bearing in mind is to do with the same claim-are all new questions.
Making it up as they go along I fancy.

Thought it time I should 'update' thread...

So 'total fail' in the eyes of the establishment!

I have requested 'a statement of reasons' for the tribunals decision - which I've finally received and is a load of old bollox! So here goes... appealing to the upper tribunal. This will be a tiresome time but 'I will fecking have them if I can!'

In the meantime - re-applied for new ESA claim for new illness - which had lead on from old illness and already I've been 'invited for new medical'. Well they can feck off with that one, they will have to come to me.

Fucked off big time and ready to fight.... yet again!!

One in the eye - for the time being anyway. Received a letter from the Tribunal service.

This is not so much about illness anymore it's about points of law. I went after them after not agreeing with their Statement of Reasons for failing my appeal. After reading up on the DWP/ATOS guidelines I highlighted the discrepancies which in turn the District Judge has decided that a new tribunal should hear the appeal.

Therefore the tribunal's original decision is cancelled. :D

They state "The decision is reviewed because it contains an error in law and that the Statement is a recital of the evidence".

Note that I also stated that I was extremely disheartened that the Tribunal accept a medical report such as the one performed by ATOS Healthcare over any GP/Hospital medical reports, without giving good reason of choosing one over the over.

To this they state

"The Tribunal has not dealt adequately with why the Tribunal did not accept oral evidence and WHY it preferred the HCP (Health Care Practitioner) report. To recite what is in the claim form, then the HCP report does not produce a finding.

So although I have to attend another tribunal I do feel a major achievement that I have won up against at least, the last tribunal judge and his doctor friend ;)
