If it's taking a while to write the post that can happen... but if you click the 'back' button you should find your post intact there ready to log back in a try again.

Its to do with your cookie timing out, or your internet connection resetting.

When you get the blank screen - empty post submission page - check if your logged in, if you arent, log in. Then click the browser back button two or three times and the post will reappear. Copy the post (right click - select all - right click - copy) then use the browser forward button to the latest page - the empty post submission page - right click -paste). Click submit.

This generally happens to me because of a loose USB port that connects my dongle. This causes my internet connection to reset and a new IP address is assigned. The TPUC cookie held in my browsers memory becomes invalid because its based on the last IP address I connected through. It can also happen if my ISP decides Ive been using a dynamic IP address for so long that I could be hogging it as a static IP address, and they reset it themselves.

Most of the time it's a cookie time-out, they seem to do this after about an hour, well in Firefox they do anyway. In this case, with Firefox, all you have to do is Log in again, then back-page to your post and resubmit as Kazz recommends. That is if you don't close your Browser, because then it's gone. If you need to close your browser, then copying the text to your clipboard is highly recommended.

You're not alone, it catches me out too :x

its happened to me several times and i've lost some enormous time-consuming posts in the process. i use firefox and i tried logging in when prompted and then going 'back' but it just gives me an empty post box, it doesn't save the text, so i always make sure now that when i write a big post and/or i've been otherwise inactive for a while that i highlight and copy the text before i go to submit the post, that way if i've been logged out and have to log back in and its wiped the text, i can just paste it back in and submit it.
