TVL - The Great British JOKE

Postby dario » Sat Jan 07, 2012 1:58 pm

Trying to get my head around What A TV Licence Is For!

Basically, correct me if i'm wrong but a licence by definition means: Official or legal permission to do or own a specified thing. and Broadcast means: To send a transmission or signal; transmit.

So the BBC broadcast programmes into our homes without the need for a licence key or indetification tag of any kind which means it's public.

OK, so... if I go around flashing or transmitting (broadcasting) flashes of light (which i'll call signals) from my torch in through the window of public homes and they watch it dance around the room, does that mean I can knock on their door and ask them to pay a licence so that I can give them permission to watch my torch beam publically transmitted into their home? After all i'd have evidence that they were watching it once they came out to complain that they couldn't stop the signal entering their home!

Surely it is me who would be liable for Anti-Social behaviour for 1. transmitting unwanted signals into their home and 2. for bullying them into paying me for it regardless!!! mmmm

it was my understanding that the BBC do have and need a license. this is paid by the tax payer.

That might be an interesting point! Are you saying that the BBC needs the licence and thus passes the cost of said licence onto the public? Bit like the VAT is passed onto the public.
Laugh my friends even if it kills you, for at least you'll die happy

everything is "IMO" if you want to argue ring your local jobsworth council officer...they love it..

In the first seven months of this year 250,000 evaders - enough to fill Wembley Stadium three times over - were caught by the organisation's army of officials using vans and handheld detectors.

That's 1179 evaders caught per day, 49 every hour, (assuming the "army" are sleepless automatons working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). Those detectors are working so hard they must need heavy duty liquid nitrogen cooling BBCCapita :)
KF do you honestly believe that figure they had you publicise?
But the funniest thing of all is the very appropriate subtitle
