It was rumoured in the area, for years, that the council had used Dale Farm, when it was a scrap yard, to illegally dump landfill and toxic waste! The question was never put directly to the council.
The council during their endevour to remove people from their private land denied
1, There was ever a scrap yard on Dale Farm because it was green belt land and they wouldn't allow that. When pictures emerged to show hundreds of cars stacked up, many dismantled, and scrap lying all over the place and even a yard for the scrap, they said they had denied it was a scrap yard because it was a breakers yard.
Picture of Dale Farm as a scrap and breakers yard which the council denied existed. All the roads ( hard standing) in the picture was laid by either the council or the scrap yard owner, not the Travellers as the council alleged untruthfully in court)

2, The council denied that they had put a lot of the hard standing (concrete roads) on Dale Farm because it was green belt land. This was one of the points they were using in court to get the judge to issue the right to evict. When the previous owner of the scrap yard came forward to say they did lay hard standing and so did he, they continued to deny it. It wasn't until the previous owner brought forward the actual man who had the contract and drove the lorry that delivered the concrete for the council to the site, did the council admit they had laid some of the hard standing as had the previous owner.
Taking into consideration the councils denial of things they then admitted to what is the worth of their denial that they didn't dump either land fill of toxic waste ( asbestos) On the green belt land known as Dale farm.
