Jo, they weren't that backward (Taяds :D ) ... they had sundials ... and egg timers ... and when the sun passed the yard arm ect.
However, I know from when I worked on a farm, it was a dawn 'till dusk task and I reckon before IR most work was agricultural, apart from trades of course you had your beggars and your axe battlers ... still, the only one's who had no idea of the time would be your иumpties ... correct me if I'm wrong of course ... note I would not take anything you have to say as a personal insult, and I trust that the moderators will appreciate that banter is all in good fun where no offence is taken you STUPID person :D :D :D

But it opens a bigger question? dawn dusk and noon are fixed points, so as long as they are 4 hours apart like they are in December, then its quite easy to calculate

but in mid jully its 8 hours between dawn and noon and no accurate way of splitting the difference, unless they could do trig and as they couldnt read this is unlikely

so they wouldnt know if they worked 4 hours or 6 and as they didnt know, how would the bloke of time team ?

that aside its a STUPID suggestion that they walked round with a sun dial as they would not be able to carry their lunch and of course you would need to know what time it was when you erected it

please dont take the claim that it was a stupid idea as suggesting that you are stupid in your entirety

At first, I felt harassed and indeed distressed by the notion that I had implied that medieval иumpties went about their toils humping sundials around with them ... now, I am only confused ... but not enough to go into the woods with a Viper !! :D :D :D
